Being Mortal

Brookdale Santa Fe and Comfort Keepers invite you to a free discussion of the book and film Being Mortal and about what matters most to you, your friends and family when one of you is seriously ill. We will talk about the sensitive conversations that need to happen so a person’s true wishes can be known and honored. This vital discussion underscores the importance of people planning ahead and talking with family members about end‐of‐life decisions.

We will show the documentary Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, which delves into the hopes of patients and families facing terminal illness. It follows a surgeon, Dr. Atul Gawande, as he shares stories from the people he encounters. When Dr. Gawande’s own father gets cancer, his search for answers about how best to care for the dying becomes a personal quest.

This free event is Wednesday, April 19, 3‐5pm, at Brookdale, 640 Alta Vista, Santa Fe, NM 87505. A panel of care providers will be available to discuss end‐of‐life goals and communicating with your loved ones.
